Process:
So far this year, I have done a look of pop art inspired pieces. That is one of my favorite movements but, for this piece I wanted to do something a little bit different. I love floral things and patterns and that can obviously connect to art nouveau. So my artist inspiration is one of the most well known art nouveau artists, Alphonse Mucha. His work is soft and delicate. I love the use of border as a frame and the layer of flowers. So I knew I wanted to incorporate those features into my piece. I started out with planning sketches. These two sketches were ideas for my artist and the artist in the city canvases. I am a roller derby skater in the city of Milwaukee. That is representative of who I am in the city. The city in the artist canvas was more difficult to think an idea for. I determined that the city in me was just the ideas that have bloomed in my life. So that was the theme for the last piece. I had a problem with canvas sizes. As you can see in my planning sketches, I have frames drawn in. The canvas size majority were using was 1 ft by 2 ft. That was too small for the idea I wanted to do. So my three canvases are 2 ft by 3 ft. (which bits me in the butt later.) But I drew on the frames to the canvas and the drew a large circle in the middle for where the pictures would go.

F. Champenois Imprimeur-Éditeur by Alphonse Mucha

Then I painted the frame a solid brown color. The extra border I simple painted black to make the frame pop. Over the faded colors, I drew on my ideas that I wanted. For the artist, I projected myself on the canvas and just simply did a self portrait. For artist in the city, I drew my roller derby skates. And lastly for city in the artist, I drew a light bulb with a plant growing inside of it.

My roller derby skates used for my paintings and this is the picture of myself I used for my self portraits canvas.
Reflection:
I'm not very happy with how this piece turned out. I wanted it to be more realistic which didn't happen. I wanted the frames to be more detailed and realistic as well, which also didn't happen. I am hoping to remake it to have it turn out better. I also should have just used one medium instead of two. The mixture of acrylic and oil does not work very well. Next time I plan to just use on or the other.
